Introduction: The Crazy Life of Sarah Rini

Hello Everyone! My name is Sarah Rini. I am from Texas, but came here because I love this school. I am a Psychology major here at the University of Oklahoma. This is my first semester as a senior and I will graduate in December, I am trying to finish school in 3 and a half years.

This semester is an interesting semester for me because I am taking classes in many different subjects to fulfill my upper-division elective requirements. I only have two more classes left to take in my major, but I hope to take those this summer in Scotland. I’m really lucky because my last two classes are offered abroad through my college. I really hope to be selected to participate in the program because Scotland is one of those places I have always wanted to go to.

Traveling around the world has been a very important part of my life; ever since I was younger my parents took us on many different trips. I have been very lucky to experience many different places in my lifetime. After my freshman year of college I took a year off to travel in a group called Up with People. It is a nonprofit organization that travels around the world. I was with a group of about 120 other students. We performed a singing and dancing show and did community service in all the places that we traveled to. Every week we went to a new place and had the opportunity to stay with different host families.  It was a fantastic experience for me and really opened my eyes to the world.

I have a lot of hobbies but one of my all time favorite things to do is to read books, I always have a book on me and am always looking for different ones to read. I really enjoy fantasy and fiction but I have enjoyed reading mainly every book I have come across so far. I also enjoy watching movies, some of my favorites are The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and recently I have loved The Hunger Games. I love spending time with my family and cherish every opportunity that I have to go home and see them.

One of the major events in my life in 2014 was that I got a puppy over the summer. Her name is Skyla and she is a Morkie Poo! She is truly an awesome puppy and is currently learning some fun tricks. She lives here in Oklahoma with my roommates and I and we spoil her rotten!

I am excited to take this class I have heard so many great things about it!

  1. Hi Sarah!

It's nice to "meet" you in a sense, and congrats on getting done early! Just by reading your introduction I can tell that you are a very dedicated and humble person! I think that it is absolutely awesome that you have been fortunate to have traveled around to so many places, that's something that I hope to do later in life, and your time with Up with People must have impacted all those that you volunteered for! I also love to read, though I don't have much time during the semester, and Skyla is so adorable! I can't wait to read your work throughout the semester!

  2. Hi Sarah! Congrats on getting done with college a semester early! That is so great! I hope your trip to Scotland works out--that's always somewhere that I've wanted to go. And what a way to end your last year of college! Your time with Up with People must have been so wonderful. Traveling and volunteering with a great group of people must be such a great experience for you. I've never heard of that nonprofit before, so it was interesting to hear about your experience! I absolutely love the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Hunger Games! They are both such great movies (and books!). Yay for getting Skyla. She is such a cute puppy--I've never had a puppy so I like to vicariously live through those that have such cute pets! :)

  3. Hi Sarah!
I do have to say that I am so jealous of your travel experiences. I have traveled quite a bit in my life, but I do not think I would be bold enough to pause my life, and travel around the world for a year. That is so cool. I really admire you for doing such a selfless, cool thing. I can only imagine the things you learned in your time with Up with People. I also love to read, although I have had little time to do so lately. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy really is something. The book, and movies are really so good. It was nice to get to know a little about you! Good luck with graduation, Scotland, and of course that adorable little puppy!

  4. Hey Sarah!
I am excited that we are in another class together even though it is just online! It's great that you get to graduate in December! I think that is awesome that you are going to finish school in three and a half years. I love psychology and probably would have chosen that major if I hadn't done pharmacy. Your puppy is super adorable! I also think it's so cool that you love to travel. I have always wanted to, but never really get the chance! I hope that your semester goes really well!

  5. Hi Sarah! Nice to meet you! I am also a psychology major! I believe Scotland will be a good opportunity for you. I heard it about it too through Dr.Terry and he is an awesome professor. I wanted to go to Scotland, but I am graduating in spring. I think its amazing you got to travel a lot. Your puppy is so cute and I hope you have a great semester!

  6. Hi Sarah! Traveling to Scotland would be awesome! How lucky are you to have had the opportunity to travel so much! My parents would never let me take a semester off much less an entire year just to travel. So cool! I have a puppy too. She is a corgi, and her name is Carmilita. She loves to play fetch with her tennis ball too. Your puppy looks so cute! Well good luck with trying to graduate in 3 and a half years. I'm having the opposite problem with never wanting to be done!

  7. Wow, a summer in Scotland: that sounds fantastic, Sarah!!! I lived in England for two years while I was going to school, and I am sad to say that I did not get to go to Scotland... but maybe someday! And I have never met someone before who was involved in Up With People: how cool! I know they have been around for a long time because I have vivid memories of an Up With People performance at my school when I was just a kid, in Tucson, way back in the early 70s. The singers were fantastic, and I am really glad to hear that the program is still going strong. And if you like to read, I really hope that in this class I can introduce you to some exciting new books... including a whole world of books online. And hey, especially if you are traveling a lot, virtual books that don't WEIGH anything are great. Back when I was traveling around a lot, the decision of what book to carry with you was such a big choice... but now you can have a "library in your pocket," just like the ads say. :-) I hope you will enjoy the class!

  9. Hi Sarah, my name is Amber. My roommate is from Texas, so we go there all the time and I am also a psychology major senior (though I'm a second semester senior graduating in May)! I can't even imagine completing my degree so quickly because I am like the world's biggest lazy procrastinator and I took the minimum amount of hours a few semesters, though I'm making up for it now with sixteen hours which bites. Good luck with everything!

  10. Hi Sarah!
I think that it is awesome that you came to OU from Texas and you have loved it. I have had friends come to OU from Texas and wish that they had stayed home so I am glad that you enjoy OU. I Switched from OSU and I am so glad that I am here. However, I am very excited to graduate and see where life takes me from there. Your Skyla is super adorable! My Brooklyn’s favorite toy is her little ball that she loves. I swear she is part retriever because as soon as I throw it she will bring it back wanting more play time!

  11. First off, congrats on possibly graduating early! That’s a pretty big accomplishment. I also lived in Texas but decided to come to the University of Oklahoma because of how good of a school it is. I wish I had more time during the day so I could read for leisure! I used to read all the time up until junior year of high school.

  12. Sarah,

That would be amazing if you got to finish up your degree in Scotland. Also, its awesome that you are going to be able to graduate that soon! I absolutely love dogs, and your dog looks really sweet! Good luck with everything!

  13. Hey Sarah!

I am jealous that you are going to get to finish up your degree in Scotland! That sounds like it is going to be an awesome thing! Also congrats on graduating early! That is a great accomplishment! I absolutely love reading! I struggle at times during the semester to read at leisure, but when I do have time I love to get a few books read.

  14. Hi Sarah! First of all, let me say how lucky you are that you have classes within your major that are offered in study abroad. That is practically unheard of in most majors. I’m so jealous that you have had the opportunity to travel to so many places. Also, your puppy is adorable. Good luck this semester and good luck with your acceptance into the study abroad program.

  16. Hi Sarah,
I think it’s really cool that you are planning on studying abroad. Scotland does sound like a great place to visit. The travel group you joined sounds like a great experience. I love The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the hobbit too! Your puppy looks cute and playful. Good luck with this semester and your trip to Scotland as well.

  17. Wow, graduating in three in a half years would be tough. I can’t imagine how many classes you would have to cram into your schedule to be able to do that. I am super jealous about the fact that you have been able to do so much traveling around the world, and that you may even be going to Scotland this summer. I have never been outside of the continent, but I have always dreamed of traveling the world. Like you, I also love reading fantasy and fiction books, as well as just about any other book. Also, your puppy is so cute!!

  18. Omgosh Skyla is so cute!!! Morkie Poos are such cute dogs! and wow you do seem to travel a lot which is great! I see you went to Taiwan with the picture of Buddha and you are taking classes in Scotland?! Oh geez.. I'm so jealous I want to travel like you! That is pretty great that you're in a non profit organization that does singing and dancing. Are you a performer by any chance? Also what are your plans after graduation, are you going to keep traveling? That sounds fun!

  19. Sarah, graduating in 3 and 1/2 years is very impressive. I myself wanted to walk in May and then finish my degree in Oxford but it didn't workout since I am doing the law school summer program. I kind of regret never studying abroad now. It sounds as if you have been lucky enough to see quite a bit of the world through some great trips. Also, your dog Skyla looks awesome. I am a big dog fun so I always enjoy when people include them as part of their introduction.

  20. Sarah,

ooh Scotland, I am so jealous!! I really hope you get selected for the program - what an incredible way to end your college career! Keep us posted about it! There are many places I've wanted to travel but Scotland has always topped the list. The landscape alone is enough to make me fall in love with the place.

I just looked up UWP - wow, what an amazing program! I had never heard of it before but I can imagine it was a life-changing experience. Skyla looks like a very sweet pup, congratulations!

  21. Hey Sarah! Before I say anything else, YOUR PUPPY IS SO BEYOND CUTE. I just sent a snapchat of the cutie to all my friends and now they are dying too. Next thing, you love books and love to travel! Two of my favorite things. If you like Lord of the Rings and Hunger Games then you should definitely read Game of Thrones! Or watch the show, though I would personally say to read the books!

  22. Hi Sarah! That's cool that you got to travel around with the nonprofit group it must have been so much fun. That photo in front of that huge statue in Taiwan is crazy! It is so beautiful. I would love to go there. You puppy is great! The breed Morkie Poo is becoming quite popular over the years. Nice to meet you.

  23. Sarah,
It would take a lot of determination and discipline to finish school in 3 and a half years. It is taking me four and a half and I am so ready to graduate. I am definitely in a mid semester slump and can not wait to be done and to be graduated in May. Your morkie poo is super cute! I am a sucker for dogs! They bring so much joy in your life! Good luck with the rest of this semester!

  24. Sarah Rini,

It’s so crazy that we are just “meeting” as this class is coming to an end. I love to travel as well! I think studying in Scotland (or any foreign country) would be amazing. I am lucky enough to get to work abroad in India this summer! I am super excited.

Your puppy is so stinkin cute! I definitely want a dog someday, but I need to wait until I know I can give the dog enough attention!

    Nice to meet you!
